Les Pinceaux (The Brushes) is a bronze sculpture that embodies one of Arman's most distinctive gestures: the accumulation of everyday objects elevated to the status of artwork. Here, painter's brushes — the quintessential tools of artistic creation — are cast together and frozen in metal, forming a dense, organic mass that questions the boundary between tool and work, between making and being.
Created in 1989, this patinated bronze is hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
Arman, co-founder of Nouveau Réalisme in 1960, made repetition and accumulation his fundamental sculptural language. With Les Pinceaux, he turns the tool against itself: the painter's instruments become sculpture, in a subtle play of irony and homage to the act of creation. The work is accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
