Empreintes de violon orange (Orange Violin Imprints) is a large-format work on cardboard that translates one of Arman's most fundamental artistic obsessions onto a flat surface: the violin. Here, the instrument is neither sculpted nor cut, but applied directly onto the support like an oversized stamp, leaving its impression in vivid orange ink in a gesture that is simultaneously performative and serial. The result evokes printmaking, expressionist gesture, and the serial logic at the heart of Nouveau Réalisme.
The Empreintes de violon series represents one of the most lyrical dimensions of Arman's work, co-founder of Nouveau Réalisme in 1960. The violin, a recurring motif across his Colères, Coupes and Combustions, becomes here pure trace, pure colour, sublimated through repetition and the chromatic energy of orange.
