Toumani is an original artwork by French artist
SENY, in which portraiture and the intensity of the gaze take centre stage. Facing the viewer directly, the young figure stands out against a vibrant yellow background, while deep shades of blue structure the clothing and reinforce the visual strength of the composition.
Created on rusted metal, the work combines acrylic, spray paint, pastel and oil. SENY layers techniques and materials to build a portrait that is both precise and richly textured. The irregularities, traces and variations of the metal surface remain intentionally visible and become an essential part of the artwork’s identity.
The contrast between the rawness of the metal and the delicacy of the face is characteristic of SENY’s artistic language. Rooted in street art culture, the artist moves beyond traditional portraiture to create an image where figurative painting, urban art and material experimentation come together.
In Toumani, the gaze establishes an immediate connection with the viewer. More than a simple representation, the portrait becomes a presence. The bold colours of the background and clothing contrast with the more subtle treatment of the face, naturally drawing attention towards the figure’s expression.
Through this work, SENY continues his exploration of faces and identities, with a particular focus on childhood and the diversity of individual journeys. The metal, marked by time, enters into dialogue with the youth of the model, creating a tension between fragility, permanence and memory.
A unique and resolutely contemporary artwork, Toumani by SENY perfectly illustrates the encounter between figurative portraiture and contemporary street art that defines the artist’s practice.
