Samir Tamari

SAMIR TAMARI is a Lebanese contemporary artist born in Beirut in 1958. Passionate about drawing and painting from an early age, he later studied Art and Advertising Techniques in Montreal, Canada. His childhood and the summers he spent in Saghbine, in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, had a lasting influence on his artistic vision, particularly his relationship with color, form and scenes from everyday life.

Blending abstraction and figuration, Tamari has developed a distinctive visual language characterized by vibrant colors and a remarkable freedom of composition. Stylized figures, references to popular culture and narrative fragments emerge within his paintings, creating an instantly recognizable universe. Beneath their playful appearance, however, his works often explore real-life situations and emotions, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and uncover their underlying meaning.

Color plays a central role in Tamari's work. Through contrasts, layering and texture, he creates luminous and energetic compositions. Acrylic on canvas is one of his preferred mediums, although his practice also extends to other painting techniques. His work continuously moves between gestural abstraction and figurative imagery.

With a style that is spontaneous, sincere and often infused with humor, Samir Tamari transforms everyday subjects into visual narratives in which the apparent lightness of the image contrasts with the depth of its message. For the artist, painting is above all a personal means of expression and a way of conveying his own perspective on the world.

Based in Beirut, where he lives and works, Samir Tamari has participated in numerous exhibitions. Recent solo presentations include Winks at Rebirth Beirut in 2023 and Refresh at Maya Art Space in Beirut in 2024.
