Biography
MR. BRAINWASH (Thierry Guetta) Born in France in 1966, Thierry Guetta, globally known by his pseudonym Mr. Brainwash, is a leading figure in contemporary art, at the crossroads of street art and pop art.
Relocating to Los Angeles as a teenager, he initially worked as a vintage clothing merchant while obsessively filming the world around him. His artistic journey took a decisive turn when he discovered the underground urban art scene. Thanks to his cousin, the famous mosaic artist INVADER, he connected with graffiti legends such as Shepard Fairey (Obey) and the elusive Banksy.
After accumulating thousands of hours of video footage on this emerging culture, Thierry Guetta reinvented himself as Mr. Brainwash. This astonishing metamorphosis and his rapid rise in the art market became the central subject of the Academy Award-nominated cult documentary directed by Banksy, Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010).
His very first monumental exhibition, Life Is Beautiful, held in Los Angeles in 2008, met with phenomenal success and marked his explosive entry onto the international art scene. Quickly acclaimed by collectors, Mr. Brainwash has built a global reputation through large-scale exhibitions and major collaborations, notably designing the cover for Madonna’s Celebration album in 2009.
Blending the legacy of Andy Warhol with the raw energy of graffiti, Mr. Brainwash’s work today holds a unique and vibrant place in the artistic landscape. Discover the artworks of Mr.
