UN HOMME ET UNE FEMME is one of Bruno Catalano’s most striking sculptures. Presented on a monumental scale of approximately two metres, this duo has an almost life-size presence and immediately commands the space around it.
Balance is one of the most remarkable aspects of the work. Despite the fragmentation of the bodies and the scale of the composition, the sculpture relies on an exceptionally precise construction, creating an almost improbable sense of lightness. The work appears to challenge gravity, particularly through its minimal points of support, revealing the full extent of Bruno Catalano’s technical mastery.
The idea of a shared journey takes on particular significance here. The two figures move forward together, united by a single travel bag positioned between them and held by both. More than a simple accessory, the bag becomes the symbol of a common weight, a shared history and something carried together in order to keep moving forward.
The female figure is Lauralou, one of the emblematic characters in Bruno Catalano’s body of work, presented here with her hair worn loose, bringing additional movement and naturalness to the silhouette.
The patina further enhances the harmony of the duo. The correspondence between the blue tones of the jeans and the nuances of the jacket creates a particularly coherent and elegant chromatic range. These balanced colours complement the monumentality of the sculpture without weighing it down, giving the work a presence that is both powerful and refined.
UN HOMME ET UNE FEMME therefore offers a masterful interpretation of travel in Bruno Catalano’s work: two monumental figures, a shared movement, a shared burden and an extraordinary sense of technical balance.
